What is a creative writing workshop?

Creative writing workshops usually involve a small groups of writers, lead by one writer, discussing the craft of writing. Workshops often include the sharing of stories written by members of the group, which others then give feedback on. They can also feature sections of teaching by the lead writer, along with writing activities.

Are creative writing classes worth it?

Yes! But then, I'm biased. Creative writing classes give you dedicated time to think about the craft of writing, and, whether you are actively working on your fiction during the class, or whether it's in the back of your mind while discussing something else, it gives you the chance to think about your work in a different environment.

What makes a good creative writing course?

For me, it's about being part of small group who you can get to know over a few classes, having a teacher with a strong passion for writing backed up with a clear and well-researched teaching style. But this will likely be different for each person!

Is creative writing hard?

Finding the time to write, the time to develop your writing skill, and the skill of editing is the hard part! If you have a strong imagination, that's all you need to get started. My beginner courses can help you take that first idea and turn it into a story.

How do I start creative writing?

An idea to help you start your first story is to set yourself a specific challenge. Go to a cafe, pick a person, and write a 500 word story about why they're in the cafe. Then, think about what will happen once they leave the cafe. Write 500 words. There's your first short story!
